Welcome to Inclusive Mainstream Practice (IMP) Leeds.
This guidance outlines Leeds approach to promoting inclusive practice in mainstream educational settings. Our Inclusive Mainstream Practice (IMP) Guidance is designed to:
- Outline the provision and support that mainstream settings should be able to offer all learners, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within their notional inclusion budget.
- Support schools and settings in identifying and considering additional support for learners who are not progressing as expected.
- Help parents and carers understand what schools and settings are doing to support their child’s learning and development.
In Leeds, we take a needs-led approach to support. This means focusing on each individual’s unique strengths, skills, and needs, rather than relying solely on a formal diagnosis.
Co-Production and Collaboration
The IMP Guidance has been co-produced with a wide range of stakeholders, including:
- SENCos, teachers, and senior leaders from mainstream primary, secondary, and post-16 settings
- Professionals from our SEND & Inclusion teams
- Health professionals
- Parent Carer Forum and parent workshop participants
- Leeds SEND Youth Council
We are hugely grateful for the valuable feedback and contributions received throughout this process.
