Child Friendly Leeds Wishes

Child Friendly Leeds 12 wishes

The voices of children and young people are very important in making Leeds a child‑friendly city.

When Leeds first created its child‑friendly vision, the city listened to thousands of young people of all ages.

They shared their ideas about what would make Leeds a better place to play, live and grow up.

These ideas were grouped together to create the city’s 12 wishes.

Hearing from Children and Young People

In 2022, Child Friendly Leeds celebrated its 10th birthday.

Since then, the team has looked again at feedback from consultations, surveys and ballots from the last three years.

This included the views of 80,000 children and young people in Leeds.

Their feedback helped identify the most important issues for children and young people today.

Working Together

The Child Friendly Leeds team and the Voice, Influence and Change team worked with children and young people from:

  • Leeds Youth Council
  • BARCA
  • SEND Youth Forum
  • Youth Service
  • Swillington Primary School
  • Parklands Primary School

Together, they helped shape new wishes for the next generation of children and young people in Leeds.

Organisations can use these wishes to think about how they can make a positive difference.

The 12 wishes can be found here.

Child Friendly Leeds – Wish 12

Leeds is an inclusive city for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Children and young people want:

  • more awareness and understanding of different disabilities
  • more activities and places to go that are accessible to everyone
