Tots Pretend

Tots Pretend are drama and role play classes where we go on themed adventures to develop key skills such as imagination, confidence, communication, empathy and motor skills, among others!
Each week children build pretend worlds with their crates, and put the children at the heart of the role play!

As a Drama teacher of 17 years, as well as a mother to two children who spend much of their time ‘pretending’, I can see and understand the benefits of imaginary play. Even just playing at home I see my children, not only learning about the world around them through role play, but key skills like negotiation, compromise, empathy, communication and exploring different situations, using what they have around them to build the ‘world’ of their role play. It was my love of drama and my forever pretending children who inspired me to create Tots Pretend, where we build imaginary worlds to explore each week.

Learning through role play allows children to develop communication skills and an awareness of themselves and the world around them. By putting themselves in other people’s shoes, this helps to develop empathy, considering what someone else would do. Children develop their motor skills when exploring movement or becoming another character, capturing their imaginations as we explore new ‘surroundings’ in our pretend world.

And to top it all off…. pretend play is fun too! When we use our imaginations and play with our children, there is no end to the possibilities of where the role play will take us!

Disability: we welcome all children but classes particularly help children develop social and communication skills.
