Changing places

Changing Places are toilet facilities, for children, young people and adults with profound or multiple disabilities, which are fitted with specialist equipment including a hoist and changing bench. They provide enough space for up to two carers to support the person with a disability to use the Changing Place.

We have Changing Places for people who need more facilities and more space than is usually provided in a standard disability toilet.

Without Changing Places toilets, the person with disabilities is put at risk, and families and other carers have to risk their own health and safety by changing taking place on a toilet floor. This is neither safe nor dignified for the parent / carer or for the disabled child, young person or adult.

Disabled people have a right to live in the community, to move around within it and to be able to access all the places available. Having Changing Places enables those people who need them to visit the places they choose and be assured that there are safe and accessible facilities available which meets their needs.

Changing Places in Leeds

In Leeds, we have opened more than 35 Changing Places in these preferred locations including Trinity Centre, Leeds Arena, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds Bradford Airport, Emerald Headingley Stadium, White Rose Centre, Leeds Art Gallery, several sports centres and some of our larger parks.

Leeds City Council has also purchased a mobile Changing Place to be used at some of our larger outdoor events throughout the year.

Find out where the nearest Changing Place is by checking out the changing place toilets website and following the ‘Find a Toilet’ link or by calling them on 0207 803 4814.

Clip ‘n Climb Leeds

The team at Clip ‘n Climb Leeds are passionate to share our ethos around inclusion for all, supporting groups and individuals to challenge themselves and promoting healthy lifestyle activities.

We try and support as many people as possible climbing either through specific events, work with charities and groups, and through 1:1 activity.

Special Educational Needs & Disability Sessions
Although we don’t currently hold regular SEND Sessions, our team are happy to run a special session for those climbers with special educational needs (contact the centre if you would like to help organise such an event).

Otherwise our team are happy to recommend a time when we can provide a calm environment for all members of the family to climb. We can turn the music right down if needed, and if booked in advance we can ensure there are plenty of instructors to help.

Siblings are welcome to climb in the same session.

Assisted SEND Climbing
We have the latest specifically approved SEND friendly Assist Hoist System which is used in conjunction with The Adventure harness. This is a full body harness that has been specifically designed to cater for a wide age and size variance.

Fully Assisted SEND Climbing
We also have a Chute Harness for those climbers who require fully assisted climbing, they are suspended in the harness and neck support (if required) via the Assist Hoist System. This is where you the parent/carer get involved and join in the experience. You will be shown how to use the Assist Hoist System and together you will help the climber achieve their goals.

We also have a mobile hoist for assisting with fitting the harness to anyone wheelchair bound. This hoist may also be used in our disabled WC where we have a rise and fall change table.

Pre-visits are recommended to come and view the facilities and discuss any queries you may have.
