West Oaks School is a generic special school for pupils aged from 2 to 19 years old.
West Oaks is one school for 440 pupils based across three sites:
- Woodhouse Learning (240 pupils)
- Boston Spa Learning (121 pupils)
- Headingley Learning (79 pupils).
At West Oaks School, they educate pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and those with a diagnosis of Autism (ASC).
All pupils have an Education, Health, and Care Plan.
Their curriculum is structured into five pathways, considering pupils’ starting points whilst ensuring high aspirations for all. The five pathways are Foundations, Footsteps, Stepping Stones, Reaching High and Moving On.
Each pathway has a distinct rationale and framework and is summarised within a pathway rationale document that can be found on the school website
The Foundations pathway (EYFS/KS1) is based at Woodhouse Learning only.
Footsteps (Engagements Steps) pathway is based at Woodhouse Learning and Boston Spa Learning.
Stepping Stones (Progression Steps 1-3) and Reaching High (Progression Steps 4-10) Pathways educate pupils at KS2/KS3/KS4 at all three sites. The majority of pupils across the school are accessing the Stepping Stones pathway. The Moving On pathway (KS5) is predominantly based at the Boston Spa Learning site but a small number of pupils can be educated at Headingley and Woodhouse Learning too.
West Oaks prides itself on excellence for everyone within their school community and all sites benefit from high quality indoor and outdoor teaching and learning spaces.
