West Oaks School
West Oaks School is a special school for children and young people aged 2 to 19.
The school supports 440 pupils across three sites:
- Woodhouse Learning (240 pupils)
- Boston Spa Learning (121 pupils)
- Headingley Learning (79 pupils)
West Oaks supports pupils with:
- severe learning difficulties (SLD)
- profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
- autism (ASC)
All pupils at West Oaks School have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan.
Learning at West Oaks is organised into five pathways. These pathways start from what each pupil can already do and help them make progress. The pathways are:
- Foundations
- Footsteps
- Stepping Stones
- Reaching High
- Moving On
Each pathway explains how learning is planned and delivered. More information about each pathway can be found on the school’s website.
The Foundations pathway is for younger pupils and is based at Woodhouse Learning.
The Footsteps pathway is available at Woodhouse Learning and Boston Spa Learning.
The Stepping Stones and Reaching High pathways support pupils of primary and secondary school age. These pathways are available at all three sites. Most pupils follow the Stepping Stones pathway.
The Moving On pathway supports young people in post‑16 education. It is mainly based at Boston Spa Learning, with a small number of pupils also supported at Headingley and Woodhouse Learning.
West Oaks School aims to provide high‑quality education for everyone in its school community. All sites have good indoor and outdoor spaces to support learning and development.
