St Johns Catholic School for the Deaf - specialist independent school 4 to 18 years old
The school is for girls and boys who attend as day pupils or boarders. It supports children and young people with sensory and communication needs. Spoken language is used at the school.
All pupils are taught by teachers who have extra training in deafness or multi‑sensory needs.
Classrooms are designed to help pupils hear clearly. They use special sound systems to support listening. The school has an audiologist who supports hearing needs. A school nurse helps with health and medical care. Pupils also take part in lessons about personal, social, and health learning.
The school works closely with local child and adolescent mental health services. These teams have experience in supporting deaf young people.
The school also has speech and language therapists. They provide support for pupils in one‑to‑one sessions and group sessions.
