Disability Register
Local register of disabled children and young people.
All local authorities must keep a register of disabled children and young people.
This is part of the Children Act 1989.
How the Disability Register Works
The disability register is a voluntary list of children and young people in Leeds who:
- have SEND, and
- receive services from health, education or voluntary organisations.
The register helps the council and health services understand:
- how many children and young people with SEND live in Leeds
- the different types of needs they have
- how to plan and improve services for the future
Who Can Join the Register?
Children and young people can join if they:
- are 0 to 18 years old
- young people aged 16–18 may need to give their own consent
- have a disability, special educational needs, or a health condition that affects everyday life
- live in Leeds
